Trespass is the sin one commits. Sin brought death, without sin there is no death. Sin therefore makes you vulnerable or open to all sort of things such as hardship, difficulties etc. The good news however is, our sins has been forgiven by the death and resurrection of Jesus and He remembers them no more.
